REGULATION FOR CONDUCTING WORKSHOP “BEETHOVEN’S SYMPHONIES” (for active students under 35)

The 42nd edition of the Portogruaro International Music Festival launches for the first time a Workshop for conductors dedicated to Beethoven’s symphonies.
The Workshop will be held by Maestro Marco Angius with the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto (OPV), resident orchestra in Portogruaro, and will take place over 5 days divided into a theoretical lesson (15 July), the orchestra rehearsals of the Festival preview concert, conducted by Marco Angius (15 and 16 July), two days of practical Workshops (17 and 18 July) and a final concert (19 July).
During the Workshop, students will have the opportunity to conduct Beethoven’s symphonies 1 – 3 – 4 – 7. At the end of the Workshop, two students will be selected and will conduct the OPV in a final concert, which is planned on Friday 19 July, as part of the Portogruaro International Music Festival.

MASTERCLASS REGULATION

Courses are open to instrumentalists and ensembles from all nations and with no age limit. Masterclasses will be held according to the schedule and the rules contained in this regulation. General rules are fixed for all the classes and particular rules for chamber music courses and for singing course.
Students are divided into active students and auditors.
Courses reaching the minimum requirement of 8 participants will be activated.
Six lessons are expected to each student, excepting special courses and workshops. Each teacher will determinate the lessons schedule based on the individual needs of every class member. Courses may include group lessons.
Some teachers may collaborate with teaching assistants and collaborators. It is the exclusive responsibility of teachers to assign students to their class or to the assistant one and also to decide how lessons will be subdivided.
While enrolling, students have to state their individual repertoire by using the space available on the application form or with an attachment. Students are required to bring musical scores, parts and piano arrangements of the musical excerpts they intend to play. Students are required to bring along parts and piano reductions of the pieces they intend to play and, if necessary, they are required to send copies of the parts for the accompanying pianists via email to masterclass@festivalportogruaro.it (indicating the link on the website IMSLP or in pdf format in case of non-downloadable parts).

Admission
In order to attend the courses, students may need to pass an admission test, if the teacher deems it necessary. The possible admission test will be held on the first day of the course; duration and method will be communicated in advance by the Secretary Office.
The admission commission may interrupt the examination at any time. All decisions of the admission commission are unappealable and final.
For all active students it is possible to attend the course of another teacher by paying only the attendance fee. Active students can participate as auditors in the lessons of the other Masterclasses without paying.
Those applicants who are not admitted as active may attend courses as auditors.

Waiting list
In the case of courses with a limited number of places, once the available places are sold out, a waiting list will be opened.

Lessons calendar
Courses will be held within the time period indicated for each one. Upon request and in agreement with the teacher, lessons may be concentrated within a shorter period, with the exclusion from final concerts.
The starting and the ending date of the courses may vary according to the number of students.

Class schedule
Course scheduling will be sent via email before the beginning of the lessons.
While applying students have to specify their scheduled arriving and leaving date. With no information about dates, lessons will be assigned by the Secretary Office and they will not be refunded if not attended.

Students concerts
During the courses various concerts will be planned for students, who will be chosen by the teachers and are required to participate. All students are required to have concert attire..

Scholarships
Thanks to the generosity of private citizens and specific clubs, Portogruaro International Musical Festival offers scholarships for the best students attending summer Masterclasses. Teachers may submit one or more students (depending on the number of students enrolled for each course) who will have to sustain a specific audition. Winners may be required to play on the occasion of the awarding or at concert events organized by Fondazione Musicale Santa Cecilia during the year 2024/2025 or at other concert institutions, subject to the revocation of the scholarship itself..

Chamber music
Participation in the chamber music courses is permitted only to already formed ensemble: each member must pay both the application and attendance fee.
Upon request, if considered qualified and according to the teachers and the Secretary Office, instrumentalists admitted to individual courses can attend some chamber music lessons instead of individual lessons and within the total number of the 6 individual lessons. In this case, there is no further application or attendance fee.

Singing Masterclass
During the lessons students will be able to master every aspect of their preparation: repertoire, vocal technique, interpretation of the score, reading and psychological analysis of the characters. In particular, this year the singing course will study in deep the bel canto repertoire from Rossini to Donizetti.
As a part of Portogruaro International Music Festival, at the end of the Masterclass a concert with the orchestra is dedicated to the singing course. The teacher will select among the students those who will take part in the concert and who can be awarded with a scholarship kindly offered by the Durante Family and by Luigi Maset’s nephews.

Practicing
During the Masterclass period, active students can practice in some dedicated classrooms, that have to be booked in advance with the staff at the Masterclass location entrance.

Regulation for foreigners stay in Italy
Form E/111 is required for medical assistance for foreign students coming from countries within the European Community. Students from non-European Community countries are required to present their health care information to the Secretary Office.
In the case of awarding a scholarship, foreign students must have an Italian tax identification number. More information on how to request and obtain the Italian tax identification number is available at the link:
